On April 18th, the protesters requested an end to Texas’s quarantine order through the protest popularly known as “You Can’t Close America”. Many protesters gathered in Austin to take part in this rally by saying things corresponding with “Open Texas Now” and “End Medical Tyranny”. Pressuring the governor to reopen the economy, the protestors then join Owen Shroyer.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced his plan to reopen Texas businesses gradually on the Thursday before, which is believed to have sparked the protests.

“This weekend, Texans of all stripes will assemble outside the capitol building in Austin, Texas, to protest the authoritarian lockdown orders being imposed by petty tyrants at the local level,” the event posting reads on conspiracy site, InfoWars.

As citizens of Texas, we believe that the order placed by the government to stay at home if for our safety. If not for quarantine, the number of cases in Texas would have increased much more, and many more lives would be at risk. As of now, 1,767 lives have been lost in Texas. This quarantine is preventing more lives from being taken. At the same time, we are aware of the pain of families who cannot go back to their jobs and provide for their families. The quarantine has made paying rent, paying taxes, buying supplies, and buying food much harder due to some families’ lack of income.

However, President Donald Trump had a different perspective on this topic and is leaning towards speeding up the reopening of the economy of the states in the US.

“It is the decision of the President, and for many good reasons. With that being said, the Administration and I are working closely with the Governors, and this will continue. A decision by me, in conjunction with the Governors and input from others, will be made shortly!” Donald Trump tweeted on April 18th, 2020.

There are many protests going around, such as in Pennsylvania, New York, Wisconsin, and Ohio. There are many more in Michigan, Maryland, Minnesota, Colorado, California, and other states across the nation. However, it is best to remember that if quarantine were to come to an end, many of our loved ones will be in danger of the virus.
