Every generation has lived through different events throughout their life and will continue to shape life as we continue to live. This generation was first created with children born from 1997 to 2010. But, it’s 2021 now. That means another generation has been created: Generation Alpha. This generation has lasted from 2010 and will continue to grow to 2025. So, if we think about the future generations to come, it lies in the hands of today’s teens: The Gen Z’ers.
In the past, each of these generations has lived through different important times. For example, the baby boomers represented the explosion of babies after World War 2. Generation X represents the growth of technology, at least for the start of it, when kids finally began to use computers. Millennials were young when technology continued to develop and 9/11 was fresh on everybody’s mind. Gen Z represents, most likely, the vast growth of technology, such as iPhones, iPads, AirPods, and more. What will Generation Alpha most likely be known for? Well COVID-19 has definitely been a huge influencer on this new generation.
So, thinking about things decades from now, the people running our country, the people who are still young now (25 and under) will shape our future. First of all, there is going to be a lot more technology! People are going to be even more obsessed with devices than they already are, especially with just doing general things! Also, today’s teens have been changing the world by inventing new apps, saving up for their future, and innovating like never before!
It can be hard though. People are extremely self-critical of themselves, and with the increase of mental disorders, therapists and other help will be needed. After an interview with some members of Gen Z, their words were not so hopeful. After being asked how Gen Z would shape the future, one 8th grader said, “Not in a good way. They’re not very bright.” Another 8th grader mentioned this: “They’re too sensitive.” After talking to a millennial, they had another thing to say about it. “I can see it going one of two directions, depending on who takes the lead. There is a large population of Gen Z who cancels culture, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. They can use that cancel culture in the correct way, aka racism, getting it canceled. Or they can take it to the extreme in some things when they try to “cancel” in a way that they don’t need to be.”
“I think that this group is going to work harder at breaking down barriers. Gender barriers, racial barriers, and create a more fluid world where people can interact and not fear, you know, retribution. I think we are going to see this group as a group that truly works, especially getting our racial barriers down. You guys have been raised in the most ethnically diverse time and are much more accommodating of ethnic cultures.” Said a baby boomer after I interviewed them.
Whatever is going to happen, it is going to be an interesting next few decades. Stay up to date with the Voice of Frisco for more information on a variety of topics. Thank you for reading!!
