The recent uproar of AI has been nothing but prominent in recent years especially in the film industry. AI can be classified as many different things whether it is a learning tool, a source of information, decision maker, or simple entertainment. Artificial intelligence (AI) is numerous computer systems used to perform human tasks. One example of this is generating animations, a task that can be done via humans. A human would create multiple images and display them rapidly to create movement in an animation and AI will just do it strictly from their database. The film industry has been utilizing this ability of AI to create scenes in their movies, shows, short films, etc. Many fan bases are angered at the use of AI because they view it as inauthentic and ruins the purpose of real film also known as “the death of cinema”. A couple of years ago multiple strikes in Hollywood occurred due to the use of AI in films concerning AI’s effects on income and jobs and now many successful movies are using AI to generate parts of their films. One example of this is in the film “Late Night with the Devil” one scene was viewed as controversial because there was use of AI to create the scene. It was seen as a shortcut and the public thought the scenes would be poorly made. However once the movie was watched many people saw it was a very minimal use of AI and ratings ended up being very good with a 7/10 IMBd score and 97% rotten tomatoes.. Another example of AI in the film industry is the Oscar winning movie “The Brutalist”. AI was used for Adrian Brody’s character Laszlo when he was speaking Hungarian. As a result of this minimal use of AI when the brutalist won its Oscar many were saying it was unfair seeing as part of the movie was AI generated. AI is appealing to the film industry because it reduces funds leaving more money for production as well as reduces the time it takes to prepare for filming. AI is also used to help people with their jobs such as animators with animating their scenes, writers with editing, so on and so forth. AI in the film industry is seen as a helpful tool by most filmmakers when it comes to making their job a little easier however to most viewers it is seen as unimaginative and inauthentic destroying the purpose of the art that is film.
