The Texas Mask Mandate

As many of you may know, Governor Abbot has lifted the statewide mask mandate put in place due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Now, we will all have the ability to travel to stores and businesses in full capacity without any masks. Sounds like a dream, right? Well, seeing the rise in COVID cases in Texas and the week-long break occurring, this may not have been the best decision. To learn more about the Mask Mandate and how to stay safe, keep reading!

Abbot’s Adjudication

“With the medical advancements of vaccines and antibody therapeutic drugs,” Governor Abbot says, “Texas now has the tools to protect Texans from the virus.” “We must now do more to restore livelihoods and normalcy for Texans 100 percent. Make no mistake, VOCID-19 has not disappeared, but it is clear from the recoveries, vaccinations, reduced hospitalizations, and safe practices that Texans are using that state mandates are no longer needed. Today’s announcement does not abandon the safe practices that Texans have mastered over the past year. Instead, it is a reminder that each person has a role to play in their own personal safety and are ensuring that all businesses and families in Texas have the freedom to determine their own destiny.” To listen to his entire speech, click here

Governor Abbot’s decision to lift the mask mandate had no opinion from the medical officials previously working with him. This angered many Texans as his decision had no medical background. Although the mask mandate is technically lifted, many healthcare officials in and around Texas say that the citizens of Texas should stay wearing masks and social distancing despite what Abbot said.

How To Stay Safe

Although many may see this as a good thing to avoid wearing masks, however, avoiding wearing a mask could lead to deaths and lifelong injuries. To stay safe, make sure you still wear a mask. If you need to go out, make sure it’s only for important things, such as school, work, or grocery shopping. Although this may be difficult, if you see any of your friends, family, or community members going out mask-less, make sure you remind them to wear a mask. Even though they might ignore it, a small reminder could really make a difference. Try to stay socially distanced the best you can, and as difficult it may be, try not to travel anywhere during this spring break, unless your plans are already set.
