Introducing Singer-Songwriter Sarah Kapoor

Hi! I am Sarah Kapoor, a singer-songwriter with three released singles thus far. (Saying that has been my dream for as long as I could talk.) This article is a deep dive into said singles, incorporated with new lyric videos designed by Deepika Tiruveedhula.

Well, I released my first song as a minor. It is called “Silence.” I wrote “Silence” when I was in a very dark place. I had just gotten out of a very toxic and abusive relationship. People constantly told me to stay silent about my struggles. After I released “Silence,” I felt so much peace within myself because, in a way, it felt like I had broken my silence and could finally speak. I went from feeling caged in my emotions to thousands of people listening to them every day.

A month and a half later, on my 18th birthday, I released “Fairytale,” a song that helped me realize my self-worth. “Fairytale” was about letting go of these toxic people in my life and not needing them anymore. I enjoyed writing “Fairytale,” because it was a unique style to my songwriting. I was inspired to write it as a fairytale, specifically about Cinderella breaking the stereotype of looking a certain way and needing Prince Charming, as that fairytale also reflected my interest in women’s rights.

After that, I released “Million”, the toughest song for me to write and my most meaningful song yet. I wrote “Million” about my mother, who passed away two and a half years ago. Grief is not a linear path of growth. I have had many ups and downs, or as I like to say it, I had bad months and good days, but now I am growing into good months and bad days. “Million” was about my life with my mother, how she raised me, how I feel now that she is gone, and how I will always miss her. There is no way for me to talk to my mother ever again. However, writing “Million” felt like a conversation I had wanted for almost three years. I have found so much more peace within myself and the grief process since I released “Million.” “Million” was also a way for me to connect to my mother because she taught me how to sing. She is the reason for all my music and will always inspire me to write more.
